Canolfan Gymunedol BODORGAN Community Centre

Quarterly Meeting of the Bodorgan Community Centre Management Committee was held on Monday 15th July 2019

PRESENT: Dafydd Jones (Chair) Myfyr Davies (Vice-Chair), Rhys Evans (Treasurer), Chris Rogers (Secretary), Andrew Hughes, Cllr Peter Rogers, Sian Prytherch, Helen Evans

APOLOGIES:  Sheila Jones, Cllr Bryan Owen

MATTERS ARISING FROM LAST MEETING: Minutes proposed and seconded as a true and accurate record. Matters arising - Letter to band still to be sent. Chris to compose and send to Dafydd.

QUARTERLY ACCOUNTS: Already circulated. Dafydd highlighted exercise class now taking place regularly on a Monday afternoon. In order to sustain it hall hire is £12 per hour for class. Alpacas regularly using centre providing new income stream.

COMMUNITY CENTRE UPDATE: Still waiting response from our solicitor re Expression of Interest (Asset Transfer). Centre is not being used enough to financially sustain it. Population of Bodorgan is expected to decrease again at next census. Last 2011 census recorded 921 residents, but a 2017 estimate is only 880. One proposal is to demolish current building and have a new build, however some of the community will oppose this. Dafydd is organising comparable costs of renovating versus new build to present at next meeting. Information has come to light that when Bethel school was extended in 1859 a deed was in place that it had to be used for educational purposes only. Since the old police station in Malltraeth whose sale financed the community centre is covered by the deed on Bethel school this may be another tool to use against the local authority for a cheap purchase of the site. It was suggested contacting Bangor University and Church Archives to see if deed still exists. Dafydd to advertise centre’s availability in community section of local newspaper. Meeting approved employment of Mrs Roberts to clean hall floor. Meeting of Trustees and all events are now advertised on the Malltraeth Ymlaen website.

OTHER BUSINESS:  There was no other business

The Chairman declared the meeting closed after agreeing the date of the next meeting.
